Global Leadership Academy

The Global Leadership Academy (GLA) — hosted by the Endocrine Society — is an invitation-only program designed to celebrate and further develop the talent of emerging leaders within the endocrine research and clinical communities.

Each year, national endocrine societies from around the world support the GLA by nominating and sponsoring exceptional early to mid-career emerging leaders (clinicians and scientists less than 10 years post formal training) from within their membership to participate in this exclusive global cohort.

In 2024, GLA fellows will be invited to join the Early Career Forum (ECF) at the annual ENDO meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. The ECF program equips attendees with the tools and perspectives needed to successfully navigate career options as physicians and scientists.  

Attendees are expected to participate in the formal ECF program as well as stay for the entirety of the ENDO meeting. 

Additional Benefits

Those nominated by their home society to join the ECF program as a GLA fellow can expect the following benefits and opportunities: 

  • The opportunity to develop new perspectives on career options for physicians and physician scientists;
  • Expert advice on how to navigate the rigors of a career in science and medicine, including how to interview and prepare for a seminar, publishing, and transitioning through different career stages;
  • Leadership trainings offered by professional development experts;
  • Access to expert faculty, comprised of respected Endocrine Society leaders;
  • Complimentary ENDO registration with access to all the clinical and scientific sessions; and
  • Endocrine Society will provide an invitation letter to the selected representatives to assist with visa interviews.

Nominations and Eligibility

To nominate a GLA fellow for the Early Career Forum on behalf of your society, email gelc@endocrinee.org. Nominees are also encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration at ENDO 2024.  If nominees intend to submit abstracts for consideration, we ask that nominations are received by the January 9, 2024 abstract submission deadline. Otherwise, the deadline for nominations is January 20, 2024. If nominees require an invitation letter to assist with visa interviews, we encourage nominations are submitted as soon as possible.

  • Deadline for Nominee if Submitting Abstract: January 9, 2024
  • Program Dates: ECF—May 31, 2024, ENDO 2024—June 1-4, 2024 

Eligibility

Nominees for the 2024 GLA cohort must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominated by a national or regional medical and/or scientific society whose mission and vision positively impacts the field of endocrinology research and patient care. The nominating society must also be an active member of the Global Endocrine Leadership Coalition;
  • Nominated by a national or regional medical and/or scientific society who is willing to sponsor the nominee’s travel expenses (flights, ground transportation, hotel, and per diem)*;
  • Considered a “early to mid-career” scientist or practitioner (under 10 years post formal training, either clinical or post-doctoral fellowships);
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership potential either at their place of work and/or at the society sponsoring their nomination;
  • Willing to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend the May 31st Early Career Forum and the ENDO meeting;
  • Must be proficient in English to participate in all assignments and meetings.

*If nominee belongs to a Society located in a World-Bank designated “developing country,” Endocrine Society will offer a $1,500 travel stipend for one participant.
